Abstract
This article examines the contribution of Soviet specialists to the development of education and science in the city of Shenyang, one of the most important industrial and administrative centers of China. Focusing on the period of intensive Sino-Soviet cooperation (i.e., the middle of the 20th century), it gives particular attention to Soviet involvement in the training of Chinese engineering personnel and in the establishment and strengthening of leading Chinese universities, such as Liaoning University and Shenyang Ligong University. The findings are based on materials collected by the authors during their work at the Liaoning University History Museum (Shenyang) and the Harbin Museum of History (Harbin). A conclusion is reached that China still highly appreciates the assistance from Soviet specialists on the advancement of Shenyang. Studying and preserving this shared history is essential for supporting the educational and scientific interaction between the two countries.
